Lucas, Alfred E -
Alfred E. Lucas of Kent was born Nov. 19, 1942, to Arthur Eugene Lucas and Florence Francis Lucas in Creston, Iowa, and passed away Sunday, July 27, 1997, at the age of 54 after suffering heart problems at his parent's home in Kent.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 31, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston with Rev. Peter Brantner officiating.
Burial was in Morgan Cemetery, Kent. Memorials to Platte Center Presbyterian Church and the Morgan Cemetery.
Alfred graduated from Creston High School in 1961 and attended Creston Junior College and Iowa State University.
He farmed all of his life in the Kent area. He was a member of the Union County Historical Society and the Union County Genealogical Society. He was a 4-H leader, Platte Township Historian and in 1971 he authored the book
"A History of Kent, Iowa 1869-1971" for Kent's Centennial. He also authored the book "Bluegrass Palaces" for the Union County Historical Society. He recently completed a manuscript updated the history of Platte Township and Kent. Alfred was also a trustee for the Morgan Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Gene and Florence Lucas of Kent, and sister Linda (Mrs. Bill) Walling of Columbia, S.C.
