Campbell, Elizabeth (Betty) -
Campbell, Michelle -
Campbell, Tabetha -
A one-vehicle accident five miles south of Lenox Sunday evening claimed the life of a Creston woman and her two daughters and seriously injured another woman.
Pronounced dead at the scene were Elizabeth Campbell, 49, Michelle Campbell, 21, and Tabetha Campbell, 5.
In serious condition at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha is Mary Reilly, 23, of St. Louis, Mo., college classmate of Michelle Campbell.
Mrs. Campbell was the wife of Tom Campbell of Creston, operator of JT Industries in Lenox.
The women reportedly were enroute to Maryville, Mo., where Michelle Campbell, driver of the van, and Miss Reilly were roommates.
The students had apparently spent the weekend at the Campbell home in Creston and were returning to campus.
The accident occurred at 5:10 p.m. Sunday. Authorities said the van was southbound on Highway 49 when it left the roadway, struck a
guard rail extending from a concrete bannister over a culvert and overturned in midair. The van continued southward across a small stream and came to rest on its top south of the stream. Authorities are not certain exactly what caused the van to leave the pavement.
Miss Reilly, who is in intensive care at St. Joseph, suffered two fractured legs, a fractured arm and a fractured jaw. A Spokesperson at the hospital said Tuesday her condition remains serious. She was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Corning before being transported to Omaha by life Flight helicopter.
The accident was investigated by Iowa Highway Patrol officers and the Taylor County Sheriffs Department. Lenox police assisted at the scene.
Funeral services for Mrs. Campbell and her daughters will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston, with burial in Calvary Cemetery there.
The rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, Coen-Beaty Funeral Home, Creston, followed by a Christian wake service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In addition to her husband, Tom of the home, 1106 E. Townline, Creston, Mrs. Campbell leaves a son, Brian, Vinita, Okla.; her parents, Robert and Rita Carson of Brookfield, Fla., and two brothers, Edward Carson of Akron, Ohio, and Leo Carson of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Michelle and Tabetha Campbell also leave their paternal grandmother, Marguerite Campbell of Capac, Mich.
