Madden, Helen Marie Short -
Funeral services .for Helen Marie Madden, 81, were held Oct. 18 at Larkin Funeral Home in Creston. Mrs. Madden died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines Oct. 15.
Dr. Roger Russell, pastor of Creston First United Methodist Church, officiated and burial was in Graceland Cemetery there.
Pallbearers were Robert Beecher, Hal Dean Morris, Richard Fehrle, Russell Ambrose, Kenneth Fogle and Ray Madden.
Born March 10, 1904, on a farm near Conway, Mrs. Madden was a daughter of William and Matilla Short. She was reared on the family farm and attended rural schools.
She and Harry Madden were married March 8, 1927, in Bedford and they farmed in the Kent community.
Mrs. Madden was an excellent cook and housekeeper, but working outside on the farm was her special enjoyment. She always had a large garden while her health permitted. She was dedicated to her husband, helping him on the farm and in politics during his tenure in the Iowa legislature.
She was a member of the Ladies Legislative League in 1964, and served for many years on the Democratic Central Committee in Union County. She was also a member of a card club.
She leaves her husband of the home; a son, Dale, of Kent, and two grandsons; and a sister, Grace Horton of Clearfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters.
