Richard H. Pierce, 34, of Des Moines, passed away at Veterans hospital Wednesday, Nov. 22nd at 3:45 p.m. Mr. Pierce had been in the hospital since August 20th. He was a former
resident of Clearfield.
Richard Haldean Pierce was born at Clearfield, Iowa, on Jan. 11, 1938 . He was the son of Hal H. and Treva Boltinghouse Pierce. He attended Clearfield Community school,
and joined the navy in 1955, receiving his discharge in 1959.
He was married at Creston Dec. 27, 1960 to Virginia Keller. They lived at Joliet, Ill., and Des Moines, Iowa. He was a machine operator.
He is survived by his widow, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Pierce, two brothers, Gary of Des Moines, and Mick of Clearfield, one sister, Jo Anne Nauman of Des Moines, two grandmothers, Mrs. Mabel Boltinghouse of Lenox and Mrs. Budd Chamberlain of Bedford. Two nieces and one nephew also survive.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Keating-McKasson funeral home in Creston. Burial was at Graceland cemetery.
Casket bearers were Darl Bell, Gaylan Belli, Russell Ambrose, Leroy Waddell, Charles Miller and Loren Oxenrider.
The family established a memorial fund for the Cancer fund.
