Mrs. Emma Giffey Dies Early Today (May 8, 1957)
Mrs. Emma I. Giffey, 72, a resident in Creston all her life and a retired Creston teacher, died at Mercy hospital in Des Moines at 12:15 a.m. today. She had been ill for about five months. Her home was at 216 Myrtle Street.
Funeral services will be held at the First Congregational church here at 2 p.m. Friday. Rev. Leslie J. Barnette, the pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. Her body is at Coens Home for Funerals but will be taken to the church to lie in state before the services. The casket will not be opened after the services. Her family will be at the funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Emma Irene Skinner was born in Creston, May 11, 1884. She was the daughter of Scott and Mary Morey Skinner. She was married here, June 2, 1936 to Herman F. Giffey, who preceded her in death in 1948.
She taught in the Creston School for 25 years before retiring.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Fred Day of Afton, and two nieces, Mrs. Philliip T. Gibbs at Cleveland Ohio, and Mrs. Robert L. Williams of Indianola.
Mrs. Giffey was a member of the Congregational church, the P.E. O Sisterhood, the S.S.S. club and the Mayflower Guild.
