Murray Guthrie, 74 Dies in Des Moines
Murray Guthrie, 74, died at 1 a.m. today at a Des Moines hospital. His home was at 600 South Mulberry Street, Creston. He had been ill for several years.
Funeral services will be held at the Congregational church here at 2:30 p.m. Monday. The Reverend E.L. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. The body will be brought to the McGregor Brothers and Coens’ funeral home and will lie in state Saturday evening and Monday until time for the services.
Murray Guthrie was born at Murray, Iowa, Nov.44, 1875. He was the son of the late Dr. Thomas A. Guthrie. He had never married. Most of his life was spent in Creston.
Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. J.R. Carson of Creston, Mrs. George Baldner of Mount Ayr, Mrs. Laura Coen of Denison, Iowa, Mrs. Ruby McCain of Sacramento, CA and Mrs. J.E. Wick of Des Moines, and two brothers, Bud Guthrie of Creston and V.B. Guthrie of Hamburg, IA.
