Loraine Amos, 86, of Afton, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Graveside memorial services will be at 12 noon, Sunday January 20, 2012 at the Greenlawn Cemetery northeast of Afton. Pastor Jim Morris and Pastor Joel Sutton will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Creston Animal Rescue Effort. Online condolences may be left under the obituary category of www.powersfh.com.

Loraine Marie Amos, daughter of Hattie Lillian (Nissen) Nielsen and Valdemar Martinus Nielsen, was born November 7, 1926 in Harlan, Ia. She graduated from Afton High School in 1944. After graduation she moved to San Francisco where she worked as a bank teller for Bank of America.

On Oct. 22, 1945, Loraine married H. Malcolm Amos in San Francisco, Calif. She lived and worked all of her married life in the Afton area. In addition to being a homemaker, Loraine partnered with Malcolm to operate the Amos Super Value Grocery Store in Afton from 1945 to 1977. Loraine was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and hosted many a card club gathering. During these years she took all seven children in the Greenbrier van, they saw two world fairs, famous places in all the lower 48 states, Canada and Mexico.

Survivors include two sons, Mark (wife Lee) Amos of Fairfield, Calif. and Harold Malcolm "Mick" Amos, Jr. of Afton; four daughters, Blythe (husband John) Shively of Lafayette, Ind., Cynthia (husband Mark) Williams of Afton, Ia., Michelle Lynne (husband Michael) Anderson of Shenandoah, Ia. and Melissa Jane Amos of Afton; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and Henry the dog.

Loriane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Malcolm in 2011, her daughter, Lanae Hagen in 2001; and a granddaughter, Michelle Diane Hagen.
