Fred McGinnis, 83, of 304 ˝ N. Birch St. died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 26, 1987, at the Greater Community Hospital.

Services will be 130 p.m. Saturday at Keating-Lindsay Funeral Home with Masonic services at 2 p.m. by L. W. “Joe” Gross. The Rev. Robert Pickerell, pastor of the First Christian Church, will officiate with burial in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be directed to the American Cancer Fund.

McGinnis was born April 27, 1902. On the family farm four miles east of Creston to Minor LeRoy and Daisy (nee Foster) McGinnis. He married Grace Donner Sept. 27, 1932, in Grant City, Mo. She preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 1978. He moved to Creston in 1968. He was a retired farmer and a 53-year member of Crest City Lodge No. 522. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a son, Dale E.(wife Linda) McGinnis of Creston; three daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Raymond) Fleharty of Creston, Rosa (Mrs. John) Weisshaar of Des Moines, and Helen (Mrs. Allen) McKinney of Macksburg; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Pete (Indus Hope) Slater and Mrs. Nellie Franklin of Creston.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister two sons, a daughter, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
