Clarence Carey Dies at D.M.Clarence E. Carey, who was born and grew up in the community north of Afton, died at the Iowa Methodist hospital at Des Moines on Feb. 20. He was 59 years old.
For the last 10 years, Mr. Carey had been an executive clerk for the Iowa Supreme Court.
Funeral services will be held at the Aurora Avenue Bible church at Des Moines at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Ivan L. Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in the Groesbeck cemetery at Lorimor.
His family said a memorial fund is being established and contributions can be left with the Dahlstrom funeral home at Des Moines or with Rev. Hoffman.
Clarence Edison Carey was born in Dodge Township, Union county, on June 3, 1912. He was the son of Ulysses and Angie Carey. He had lived in the Afton community until moving to Des Moines about 10 years ago.
Mr. Carey had entered the Iowa Methodist hospital on Feb. 6 and for the last 10 days of his life was in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Obituary Clarence E. CareyClarence E. Carey, son of Ulysses and Angie Carey, was born in Dodge Township, Union County, Iowa, June 3, 1912 and departed this Life to be with the Lord February 20, 1972 at the age of 59 years, 7 months, and 17 days.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a boy of 11 years of age.
He was united in marriage to Gladys Fern Welling, August 27, 1934. To this union were born three daughters, Mary-missionary to Brazil, Frances-missionary in Tennessee, and Carolyn at home.
He was active in the Aurora Avenue Bible Church in Des Moines for sixteen years, serving as elder, church clerk, secretary, treasurer, and taught a Sunday school class for years.
He was employed by the State of Iowa for fifteen years and served in the Iowa Supreme Court the last ten years.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and two brothers, Earl and Luther.
He leaves to mourn his passing besides his wife and children, two sister-in-law, nephews and nieces and may friends. His presence will be greatly missed by his many friends and loved ones who loved him.
Funeral services were held at the Aurora Avenue Bible Church at 10:00 A.M., Thursday February 24, 1972 with Rev. Ivan L. Hoffman officiating. Burial was in the Groesbeck Cemetery at Lorimor, Iowa.
The family requests memorials to be made to the Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission, Cedine Bible Mission, and the Aurora Avenue Bible Church. Contributions may be left with Rev. Ivan Hoffman, 45 NW Aurora Avenue, Des Moines 50313, or Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Des Moines.
