Death Announcement
John F. Stalcup, 86 Dies Monday—Services Thursday

John F. Stalcup, 86, of Afton passed away at his home here at 8:00 a.m. Monday. He had been in failing health for some time.

Funeral services will be held at the Emmanuel church, northeast of Afton, at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Lyle De Ford will officiate, assisted by Rev. Andrew Lorimor. Burial will be in the Groesbeck Cemetery. The William Coen Funeral Home here is in charge.

Mr. Stalcup was born in Dodge Township, where he engaged in farming. He also operated a farm in Pleasant Township until moving to Afton the fall of 1954.

Mr. Stalcup was a member of the Baptist church.
Surviving are his widow, Ida three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Bullock of Thayer, Mrs. M.E. (Mary Jo) Sedgwick of Oakland, California, and Mrs. Lyle (Ruth) Means of Douglas, Arizona; two sons, Bryan and Clarence, both of Afton; 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His first wife, Anna preceded him in death in 1915.

Obituary John Franklin Stalcup

John Franklin Stalcup, son of Wesley J. and Mary Elizabeth Stalcup was born in a log cabin in Dodge Township, Union County Iowa on February 7, 1873 and departed this life at his home in Afton, Iowa October 19, 1959 at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 11days. He was the last surviving of nine children.

In October 18, 1906 he was united in marriage to Anna Bryan. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Bullock of Thayer, Iowa and Bryan Stalcup of Afton, Iowa. In February 1915 lost his wife and infants, twin daughters.

On February 10, 1917, he was united in marriage to Ida Jane Bole four children were born, Rubina who died in infancy, Mrs. M.E. (Mary Jo) Sedgwick of Oakland, California, Mrs. Lyle (Ruth) Means of Douglas, Arizona and Clarence E. Stalcup of Afton.

Mr. Stalcup had lived all his life in Union County and had farmed in Dodge Township and Pleasant Township before moving to Afton in 1954.

In 1916 he came to a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and joined the Emmanuel Baptist Church. In 1955 he helped organize Faith Bible Chapel, an independent Fundamental Church in the old Lemond Chapel building. Since then he has had a devoted interest in the work of the Lord there and when failing health finally kept him from attending services, he spent much of time reading his Bible. His love for his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren was exceeded only by his love for his love for his Savior and Lord.

Besides his wife and children he also leaves to mourn his loss, 18 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 7 nephews, 6 nieces and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church Thursday afternoon, October22 with Rev. Lyle De Ford, a former pastor, officiating. Assisting were Rev. Andrew Lorimor, pastor of Faith Bible Chapel, and Rev. Lee Kivett, pastor of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment was made at the Groesbeck cemetery in New Hope Township. The William Coen Funeral Home was in charge.

Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Merle Wilson accompanied by Mrs., Carl Huss. The pall bearers were; Lafe Benbow, Kenneth Caldwell, Clarence Carey, Dale Denton, George Groesbeck and Harold Harris.
