Ida Stalcup Dies—Afton

Ida Jane Stalcup, 89, passed away at the Afton Care Center at 3:45 a.m. Monday, September 22, 1980.

A memorial in her name will go to the Afton Bible Church.

Ida Jane Bole was born February 5, 1891, in Patterson, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Garvin) Bole. She lived in rural Winterset until her marriage there to John Stalcup February 10, 1917. She lived in Union County for the rest of her life. Mr. Stalcup died on October 19, 1959.

A retired practical nurse, Mrs. Stalcup entered the nursing home in September 1979. As secretary for the Ladies Missionary Circle of Afton, she wrote letters to missionaries all over the world.

She is survived by sons and daughters, Margaret (Mrs. Harry)Bullock of Creston, Bryan Stalcup of Afton, Mary Jo (Mrs. Max) Sedgwick of Afton, Ruth Means of Tucson, Arizona and Clarence Stalcup of Afton, 22 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a sister, Rubina Fuson of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law, Grace Bole of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; and infant daughter Rubina; two sisters, Letitia Larson and Miriam Bole; a brother Thomas Bole; and two grandsons, Reed Means and Kenneth Sedgwick.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Stroud-Lindsay Funeral Home in Afton with the Rev. M.E. Sedgwick ad Ervin Fuson officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Helen Ricks, organist with a special selection “Until Then”. Clarence Stalcup sang “My Mother’s Bible”. Pall bearers were Robert Bole, Keith Bullock, Jack Larson, James Stalcup, Kenneth Caldwell, and George Groesbeck.

She was laid to rest at the Groesbeck Cemetery in Lorimor.
