Lyle Means Killed In Copper Mine Cave-In In Arizona

Lyle Means, 49 formerly of the Lorimor and Murray areas, and son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ivan M. Means of Lorimor, was killed instantly April 26th at 9 a. m. in a copper mine cave-in at Bisby (Bisbee), Arizona. He was mining engineer there in the world's largest copper mine, where he been employed for around 10 years.

Services will be held at Alfreida (Elfreida), Arizona Thursday afternoon, with burial there also.

Mrs. John Stalcup of Afton, the mother of his widow, is among those from this area who has left to attend the services.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, daughter of Mrs. Ida Stalcup of Afton and the late John Stalcup and five children, all at home: Phillip, attending Jr. College there, Sheryl 16; Eric 15; Reed 11; and Rebecca 5. Their home address is Box 27, Alfreida (Elfreida), Arizona. Other survivors include two sisters: Mrs. Willard (Fern) Burkheimer of Menio; Mrs. Carol (Ada) Denton of Winterset; 4 brothers, Ralph of Lenox; Curtis of Weldon and Lewis and Andrew of Lorimor.

He was a member of the Baptist church, in which he was an ardent worker.

Mrs. Ruth Means who had been quite ill in the hospital has now been home from the hospital about three weeks.
