Hewitt, Ann Jane Butler Thompson – Mrs. Ann Jane Hewitt, 80, resident of the community of Kent since 1855, passed away in her sleep at her home Tuesday morning. Mrs. Hewitt had been in failing health for over a year.
Ann Jane Butler, daughter of Thomas and Rachel Butler was born in Jefferson County, Iowa, near Batavia on Feb. 3, 1851. She was married Feb. 17, 1873 to Joseph M. Thompson who died May 23, 1883. Two sons were born, Arthur W. Thompson who died in infancy and John E. Thompson with whom she made her home.
She came to Union County as a young woman and moved to Adams County in the year 1890, residing in this county the remainder of her life.
On Sept. 16, 1890 she was married to James S. Hewitt, who died March 11, 1894. One daughter was born, Mrs. Cecil Maharry, who lives near Clearfield.
One brother Edwin and two sisters, Rachel and Mary preceded her in death. Two brothers, William and John Butler and one sister, Lizzie Butler, all of Lenox and one brother, Walter Butler of Creston survive.
