Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 17) at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor Ernest Biaotto and the Rev. Scott Heitshusen officiating. Burial was at Lorimor Cemetery.
Elton Hammans was born Nov. 24, 1919, to Roy and Leatha Hammans of rural Lorimor. He was a graduate of Lorimor High School. In 1942 he married Edith Moffatt. Elton farmed near Lorimor from 1942 to 1965. In 1966, he moved to Earlham as was in business there. He also served as a Madison County supervisor from 1975 through 1978. He moved to Des Moines in 2002 and lived there until his death. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Des Moines Consistory, Za-Ga-Zig Temple and Earlham Methodist Church. He also had been a member of the Lorimor United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Roy Dean; a granddaughter, Kristen Michelle Whitehead; and a brother, Fred Hammans.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet Kay Heitshusen of Manchester and Phyllis Fay Whitehead of Williamsburg, and four grandchildren.
