Obituary--Mrs. A. W. Goodridge

Margaret Jane Freer was born at Butler, PA., October 10th, 1840 and died at her late home, July 16th, 1912, aged 71 years, 9 months and 6 days.

In 1856, she with her parents and her only brother, Frank, moved to Illinois, locating at Ellisville, where she grew to womanhood and was for a number of years engaged in the work of teaching in the public schools. At this time, in aiding her brother to gain and education, she displayed that spirit of self sacrifice which was a characteristic of her entire life.

On March 9, 1870 she was married to A. W. Goodridge who still survives her. To this union were born two sons and two daughters; Louise, wife of J. C. Burkenheimer of Conata, S. D., Harry, Albert and Sophia. In addition to her own family she cared for three children of a former marriage of Mr. Goodridge. They were: Carrie, now Mrs. A. J. Smith of Galesburg, Ill., Torrey and Will of this county, who with the immediate family are left to mourn the departure of a kind and loving mother. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. In September 1885 Mr. and Mrs. Goodridge came to Union county, locating on the farm that has since been their home. In early life Mrs. Goodridge joined the United Presbyterian church and remained a believer in the teachings of that organization until her death.

Funeral services were held at the Beulah church, Saturday at 11 o'clock conducted by Rev. Brauch, Rev. Hiddleson assisting. Interment made in Bethel Cemetery.
