STEARNS RITES HELD MONDAY

Funeral services for John Arthur Stearns, 77, who died at his home in Creston Saturday afternoon, were held at 2:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the Methodist church in Creston, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. L. E. Watson, and burial was in Graceland cemetery. Pallbearers were Carl Buck, Roy Stickels, W. H. Autenreith, Oscar Danielson, Burr Miler and William Comstock.

Mr. Stearns was born May 8, 1861, in Henry county, Ill., the son of John Williams and Albina C. Stearns. He was married Sept. 23, 1885, near Morristown, Ill., to Clara Susan Carlin and to this union was born two children.

The family moved to Iowa in the spring of 1901 and lived on a farm two miles northeast of Creston. Two years later they moved to the family’s present residence on North Cherry street.

At an early age Mr. Stearns joined the English Lutheran Church at Morristown and upon moving to Creston he transferred his membership to the Methodist church. He was an active member of the Odd Fellow lodge while in good health. He had been ill for several months preceding his death.

Surviving are his wife, his daughter, Bessie M. Stearns of the home, his son, Willis A. Stearns of Cromwell and two grandchildren, Willis Robert Stearns and Dorothy Kathryn Stearns of Cromwell.
