QUENTIN ABARR DIES – TINGLEY

Quentin Abarr, 84, of Tuingley, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 1988, at the Ringgold County Hospital, in Mt. Ayr.

He was born Oct. 31, 1903, in Redding, the son of Harlan and Minnie (Waugh) Abarr. He married Bertha Saville, who passed away in 1977. On Oct. 22, 1987, he married Mildred Johnston.

Mr. Abarr was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the Tingley United Methodist church, Tingley Lions Club, and Ringgold County Historical Society.

He was raised near Redding, living in Griswold for 9 years, and moved to Tingley in 1954.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Tingley; two daughters, Joyce of Grinnell and Dorothy and husband Bob Nelson of Rock Falls; a son, David Abarr of Grinnell; two stepsons, Don Johnston of Beaconsfield and Lyle Eugene Johnston of Herman, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Betty Lou Oxenreider of Creston; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and three brothers, Harlan of Redding, John of St. Joseph, Mo., and Bill Abarr of Altoona.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Tingley United Methodist church with the Rev. Jack Kendall officiating. Burial was at the Redding Cemetery with the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home of Mount Ayr in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Tingley United Methodist church.
