LEDYARD – Edith E. Black of Ledyard died of heart failure in the Good Samaritan Center at LeMars Monday, November 4 (1991). She was 90.
Funeral service for her was celebrated by Father Michael Wagner at 11 a.m. Friday, November 8 in Sacred Heart Church at Ledyard. Burial was in the parish cemetery with the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Bancroft in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Melbourne and Vernon Haag, John Darnell, Virgel Gelhaus, Lawrence Sanow and Lawrence Ternes.
A daughter of Patrick and Mary Miller Owens, Edith Evelyn was born at Afton, Iowa on April 29, 1901. She received her education in the Afton area and completed normal training to teach school. She taught country school in the Afton area.
Edith was married to Cecil Black at Afton November 5, 1919. They farmed in the Afton area until 1934 when they moved to their farm west of Ledyard. After farming there for 30 years, the Blacks retired and moved into Ledyard. Cecil died in 1975.
Mrs. Black was a member of Sacred Heart Rosary Society at Ledyard and enjoyed her garden and flowers. She entered the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center at LeMars November 26, 1986.
Edith is survived by one daughter, Lois, Mrs. Thomas Mitchell, LeMars; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, twin great-granddaughters, parents, two brothers and a sister are deceased.
