Dean Davenport, 85, of Creston, died Juy 21,2010, at his home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 25 and 34. Chaplain Paul Richardson and the Rev. Lyndon Davenport will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery south of Creston. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Creston Eagles Lodge or Greater Regional Hospice Home. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com. Dean Davenport, son of Florence Caroline (Peterson) and Hughie Logan Davenport, was born March 31, 1925, near Shannon City. Dean graduated from Shannon City in 1942. On October 5, 1946, Dean married Betty Oshel in Troy, Kansas. They settled and farmed in the Lenox area. In 1961, they moved near Creston, where they continued to farm until retiring in 2001. They moved to Creston in 2003. Dean was a member of the United Methodist Church of Creston and the Benevolent Order of the Eagles of Creston. Dean is survived by his wife, Betty Davenport of Creston; sons, Doug (wife, Magda) Davenport of Creston, Dan (wife Dorothy) Davenport of Des Moines and Derek (wife Beth) Davenport of Adair; daughter, Holly (husband Danny) Little of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Juan, Corissa, Eleanor,McKenna and Drake Davenport and brother Hubert Davenport of Clearfield. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brother Lee Davenport aned sister Beva Morrow.
