Carroll Boden, 88, of Creston, died January 19,. 2010, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Pins of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Rev. Leonard Kenkel will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post No. 1797. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and 8 p.m. Christian Wake Service at Pearson- Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service, 809 West Montgomery St. Memorials may be directed to St. Malachy Foundation, Creston Nursing and Rehab Center or Care Initiatives Hospice. Online condolencs may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com. Carroll Boden, son of Grace Louella (Hoyle) and John William Heatherington, was born December 10. 1921, in Villisca. Carroll graduated fom Creston High School in 1941. Carroll served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from 1942 until 1945. He was stationed in the South Pacific. On August 11, 1945, Carroll married Virginia Sophia Hafner in Elkton, Maryland. Carroll worked for the United States Postal Service for 41 years and delivered mail on rural routes for most of those years. Carroll was a long-time member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He served on Parish Council, St. Malachy School Board and Calvary Cemetery Board. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW and Legion Posts in Creston. He was committee chairman for Troop No. 129 Boy Scouts of America for many years. Carroll is survived by his wife, Virginia Boden of Creston; children, Mary (Randy) Greer of Tabor, Paul (Kay) Boden of Creston, David (Connie) Boden of Canon City, Colorado; Greg (Lisa) Boden of Indianola, John (Linette) Boden of Norwalk, Angie (Larry) West of Creston and Janet (Nick) Meisenheimer of Greenfield; 21 grandchildren,; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Nadine Dorsey of Visalia, California and many nieces,nephews, other relatives and friends. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; son, Carroll Boden, Jr. in 1961; brother, Clarke Boden and brother-in-law, Raymond Dorsey.
