Lori Mikkelsen, 50, of Ames, formely of Afton, died March 23, 2010, at Abington on Grand Nursing Home in Ames. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Visitation with family present will be 9:30 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Burial will be at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery northeast of Afton. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com. Lori Ann Mikkelsen, daughter of Marjorie Briggs and Raymond "Griz" Mikkelsen, was born September 25, 1959, in Creston. Lori lived in the Afton area and graduated from East Union High School. Lori moved to Des Moines, where she worked at K-Mart and Pizza Hut and was a portrait artist. Lori then moved to Ames. Lori is survived by her brother, Tim (Carolyn) Mikkelsen of Grime; nieces, Shani Mikkelsen and Karlee Strait; sister, Jane( Bill) Wimmer of Urbandale; nephew, Chris and niece, Mandi; sister, Terri Miller of Palmer, Alabama; nephews, Eric and Nathan and niece, Lara Edwards; sister, Heidi Reimer of Afton; nieces Sara and Valarie and nieces Cassie and Ashley Mikkelsen. Lori was preceded in death by her parents and brother ,Gary Mikkelsen.
