Gerald L. Wallace, 64, of Creston, died October 16, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Avenue. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery northeast of Creston with military rites by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post No. 1797. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be decided at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.
Gerald Leon Wallace, son of Ethel M.(Kriens) and Melvin Clyde Wallace, was born June 26, 1945, in rural Adair County. Gerald graduated from Creston High School in 1963. Gerald served in the Army National Guard. On September 6, 1969, Gerald married Carol Lauffer at St. John's United Church of Christ in Creston. Gerald worked for the Creston News Advertiser for 13 years and later for Farm and Home for 33 years. Gerald was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Creston. Gerald is survived by his wife, Carol Wallace of Creston; two daughters, Rachel (Rod) Hotopp of Clarinda and Gayle (Tim) Rueter of Geneva, Illinois; four brothers, Dean (Betty) Wallace of Creston, Duane (Sonja) Wallace of Orient, Wendell (Shirley) Wallace of Benton and Gary (Sandy) Wallace of Hillsboro, Missouri; two sisters, Darlene (Louis) Blazek and Sherry Wallace,all of Creston; five grandchildren, Reagan, Amber, Emerson, Cole and Daniel; sister-in-law, Alice (Jim) Schaffer of Creston; brother-in-law, Terry (Tammy) Lauffer of Ankeny; father-in-law, Fred Lauffer of Knoxville and many nieces and nephews.
