In Remembrance...Mildred Arlene McKinnie

Mildred Arlene McKinnie, 94, long time resident of Union County, Iowa, died at Overlake Hospital, Bellevue, Washington, on June 15, 2010, of heart failure. Mildred was born April 24, 1917, in Creston, Iowa, daughter of James Oliver (Ollie) and Jennie Adamson. she was reared and educated in Creston, graduating from Creston High School and attending SW Community College.

She married Holten J. McKinnie on June 4, 1942. she was a devoted wife, life partner, and mother of two children. She was an expert seamstress, quilt maker, china painter, and baker. she loved to teach and taught country school for a few years before her marriage. She held quilting classes in her home. She was active in the local Garden Club, Sunshine Society, Eastern Star, and the Afton United Methodist Church.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and husband. she is survived by her two children, Dr. Jean Sanders of Bellevue, Washington and Scott McKinnie of Spokane, Washington; three grandchildren, Sean McKinnie of Seattle, Erin Smith of Everett, Washington, Eric Sanders of Lake Forest Park, Washington; two great grandchildren, Griffin and Violet Sanders; her sister Doris Porter of Fort Dodge; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at Fairwinds Retirement Center, Redmond, Washington on June 19, where she resided at the time of her death.

A memorial service will be held on July 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Afton Methodist Church, Afton, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers the children request that contributions be made to the East Union Dollars for Scholars Foundation in memory of Mildred McKinnie, P.O. Box 15, Afton, Iowa 50830
