Mrs. Berry Dead at 71
Was Active in Social, Political Groups

Mrs. Augusta Berry, 71, widow of Dr. William Berry, and active in women's social and political organizations in Omaha for many years, died at 6 a.m. today at a local hospital. Apparently recovered after an operation, she became suddenly worse two days ago.

About 10 years ago Mrs. Berry held offices in 13 organizations at the same time. She was a Republican candidate for the state senate in 1926, the first woman to be nominated in Douglas county. In 1928 she was elected delegate to the Republican national convention.

Born in Germany

Mrs. Berry was a past president of the Douglas County Republican Women's club. She was a pioneer member of the Women's Organization for Good Government and the Omaha Woman's club, was past president or matron of Scottish Rite Woman's club, American War Mothers, the Omaha Woman's club, W.C.T.U. Chapter M of P.E.O., Adah chapter of Eastern star, and the South Omaha Woman's club. She was a member of First Unitarian church and was active in its organizations.

Born in Germany, Mrs. Berry had lived in Omaha since 1889. She taught school before her marriage. Her husband, pioneer Omaha physician, died in 1933. The Berry home is at 3820 South Twenty-sixth street.

The Survivors

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Marie Bredbeck and Doris C. Berry, school teacher, both of Omaha; two sons, William Mahns Berry, Los Angeles, and James G. Berry, Hollywood, and two sisters, Alvina Mahns; Omaha, and Mrs. Charles D. Gould, St. Joseph, La.
