SHANNON CITY-- Funeral services for Mrs. Zilphia Porter Griep, 74, were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Shannon City United Methodist church. Rev. Peter Bergen and Rev. Russell H. Schuntz officiated, Music at the service was by Mrs. Mildred Streams, organist and Mrs. Agnes Eklund who sang "In the Garden" and "Ivory Palaces." Pallbearers were Dale Eklund, Ron Marvelli, Richard Whittlesey, Dwayne Porter, Bill Brown and James Porter. Burial was in Oakland cemetery at Shannon City.

Zilphia Porter was born Aug. 30, 1895, on a farm two miles east of Shannon City. She was one of 12 children of O.S. and Kate Brown. She died at Iowa Lutharan Hospital in Des Moines on Aug. 15.

She was a former resident of the Shannon City community, but had lived in Des Moines for some time. She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Fern Whittlesey of Newton, three sons, Bill Porter of Fort Wayne, Ind., Floyd of Chula Vista, Calif., and Roy of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Frank, Orrin, and Elijah Brown of California and Bill Brown of Zearing. Mrs. Roy Eklund of rural Afton is a niece.

She attended the First Federated church in Des Moines and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
