Afton Star Enterprise--Thursday April 22, 1937

Elmer Josef Eklund, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.A. Eklund, was born in Lincoln township, Union county, Iowa, December 19, 1896, and at the age of 40 years, 3 months, and 26 days passed away at the Greater Community hospital after less than a week of illness.

He was baptised at home when a few days old and was confirmed in the Salem Lutheran church in Creston when 13 years old, of which he still retains membership.

He was called into the World War service in 1918 and was honorably discharged in 1919.

He was married on December 24, 1928 to Elenore Snider, two daughters being born to this union, Doris Jeanne and Eloise Joy. Eloise passed away at the age of three months.

He leaves to mourn their loss his loving wife and daughter Doris Jeanne, his mother and father, six brothers and two sisters. Carl, Bernard, Lawrence, Roy, Wilbur, Arthur, and Arla all living in this community and Mrs. Everett Nisely of Corning, two sisters dying in infancy, besides a host of relatives and friends.

Elmer was a loving husband, father, son and brother, and will be greatly missed by all his relatives, neighbors and friends. He is gone but not forgotten.

Services were held in Valley Evangelical church Friday, April 16, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Walter Cerka of Afton and Rev. Clarence Carlson of Creston had charge of the service. Burial Oakland Cemetery, Shannon City.
