Bernice Lenore Groesbeck, 92, passed away at the Creston Manor Care Center in Creston on March 11, 1983, 4:30 p.m. after a short illness from the flu.

Mrs. Groesbeck was born in Fillmore County, near Geneva, Nebraska on February 5, 1891 to John and Sadie Sickler Elton. She was one of four children and was the sole survivor of her family.

On June 6, 1917 she married Arthur Hugh Groesbeck at Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1923 they built a home in Union county northeast of Afton, Iowa where they celebrated their Golden Aniversary in 1967.

Bernice was blessed with good health and enjoyed working with her husband on their farm. In addition, she enjoyed music, working with her flowers, quilting and other handiwork. She loved serving the Lord and her well worn Bible gives testimony to her deep faith which sustained her and all those who loved her. Her gentle disposition made her an inspiration for all her family.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Vera (Lyle) Eveland of Omaha, Nebr. and Mrs. Marie (Antony) Belfiora of Landover, Maryland; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Arthur; her parents; a brother Leo "Enos" Elton; and two sisters, Fay Nunns and Dorothy in infancy.

Services were held on Monday at the Larkin Funeral Home in Creston with Rev. Lyle Kuehl of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery at Afton.

Casket bearers were George A. Groesbeck, Dan Groesbeck, Harold Reed, Max Sedgwick, Arlo Wittstock and Clarence Stalcup.

Mrs. M.E. Sedgwick was organist with Clarence Stalcup as vocalist.
