Afton Star Enterprise--July, 1930

Esther Lenore Schneider, a daughter fo Lewis and Amelia Schneider, was born August 10, 1879. at Wheatland, Iowa, and passed away July 15, 1930 at 8:00 a.m. at the Jennie Edmundson hospital at Council Bluffs, following an operation for goiter. She had reached the age of 50 years, 11 months and five days.

Her early childhood was spent in Colorado. Later the family moved to Oklahoma and from there to Afton, Iowa, in the year 1900. When she was eighteen her mother died and she gave up her teaching to care for her father's family.

February 14, 1906 she was united in marriage to Herman Groesbeck of Afton, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Lewis Van Ness, Ada Lenore, George Garrett, and Sarah Amelia. Her married life exept for two years in Dakota, was spent near Afton.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Herman Groesbeck, three children, George and Sarah at home and Ada at Knoxville, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Stalcup if Julesburg, Colo.; two brothers, Walter Schneider of Long Beach, Calif. and George Schneider of Palouse, Washington. One son Lewis Van Ness preceded her in death in 1908.

Through the guidance and training of her parents and her grandfather, Rev. George Rettig, she became a Christian in early childhood. She always found a place for service. On coming to Afton she united with the Methodist church at Dodge Center. After her marriage she joined with her husband in the Emanuel Baptist church where she was always a faithful and loyal worker.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Emanuel church by Rev. Osborn of New Market. Interment was made in the Groesbeck cemetery.
