Afton Star Enterprise--1908

Died at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Herman Groesbeck and Mrs. Esther Schneider Groesbeck in North Dakota, after a brief illness of only days yet intense and painful caused by cholera infantum.

Lewis Van Ness the only child of his affectionate parents. He was born December 31, 1906, and his death occurred June 27, at 11:30 a.m. 1908 making his age 18 mo. This little boy was a bright light in the home of his fond parents and the many friends who were so kind during his illness till death came. It has been said death loves a "shining mark" how true in this instance, the rose of a sweet life in this home has only gone outside of the garden to bloom more beautiful as time and the swiftly passing years roll on through eternity.

The remains were brought back by his parents to the home of his grandparents D.V. Groesbeck, where appropriate sevices were held June 30 at 3 p.m. conducted by the Rev. F. Edwards of Osceola, and was largely attended by old friends and kind neighbors who were present to mingle their tears of condolence with the stricken parents and relatives after which the remains were carried to the Groesbeck cemetery and quietly laid to rest to await the resurrection of just at the last day.

Sleep little Lewis and take thy rest,
God called thee home he thought it best.
