Arthur J. Scherer, 74, passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines at 7 p.m. Friday. He has been ill for four days.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Keating and Beamer funeral home in Creston, with Rev. G.G. Bratzel, pastor of the St. John's Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.

Arthur J. Scherer was born at Afton, April 21, 1888, the son of William and Margaret Berry Scherer. He was married at Grant City, Mo., September 15, 1928, to Helen Choate.

Survivors include his widow; two brothers John and Hubert, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Tripp and Mrs. Edith West of San Gabriel, Calif.; and Mrs. Sadie Sullivan of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several cousins, including Deyo Scherer of Arispe.

Mr Scherer had lived in Des Moines most of his life. He was a veteran of military service in World War I and was a member of Creston V.F.W. Post.
