Elizabeth Kate Berry, daughter of Me. and Mrs. J.C. Berry was born July 3, 1858, at Burlington, Iowa, and passed from this life July 24, 1941, at her home in Shannon City, at the age of 83 years and 21 days.

She moved with her parents to Sand Creek township, in Union county, when she was six years old. A part of this trip was made by ox team. Here she grew to womanhood, and on April 3, 1879, she was married to O.S. Brown.

They began their married life on a farm near Shannon City where they lived for 43 years.

To this union were born 12 children: Winniefred Snider of Creston; Dr. Ira C. Brown of Grinnell; Adella Mason of North Platte, Nebraska; Laura Mounts and Zilphia Porter, both of Shannon City; Frank Brown of Rosemeade, Calif.; Orrin and Elijah Brown both of Long Beach, Calif.; Dr. Olive R. Gustin of Kansas City and William H. Brown of Zearing, Iowa. Her husband and two children preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her children, one brother James Berry of Long Beach, Calif,, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary McFarland of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Margaret Shearer of San Gabriel, Calif., 26 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

In 1918 they moved to Shannon City where she has resided since. She was a member of the Methodist church and a faithful worker all during the building of the church in Shannon in 1889 and as long as her health would permit.

Grandma Brown, as she was known to her neighbors and friends was always busy. She spent much time visiting the sick and helping those who were in need. She was a loving mother, a faithful friend, and a good neighbor. She will be greatly missed in the community.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Shannon City, conducted by Rev. A.C. Stark of the M.E. church and internment made in the cemetery at Shannon City.
