Obediah S. Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willaim Clayton Brown, was born in Union county, Ohio, on Mar. 13, 1850, and passed away February 5, 1936, at Shannon City, Iowa, at the age of 85 years, 10 months, and 22 days.

At the age of four years, Mr. Brown moved with his parents to Champaigne county, Illinois.

In 1873 he went to Nebraska, returning to Iowa the following year locating near Eugene, the following year he moved onto their old home east of Shannon City, where he resided till they moved to town in 1917.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Kate Berry, April 3, 1879, to this union were born twelve children: Mrs. Winifred Snider, Shannon City; Dr. Ira C. Brown, of Grinnell, Ia., Mrs. Adella Mason, of North platte, Nebr,; Mabel Helena, who died in her ninth year; Mrs. Laura Mounts, of Shannon City, Iowa; Frank J. Brown, of Alhambra, Cal; Orrin Brown, of Long Beach, Cal.; Mrs. Ailphia Porter of Shannon City; Elijah Earl Brown, of Long Beach, Cal.; Dr. Ruth Wallo, who died in 1933; Dr. Olive R. Gustin, of Kansas City, Mo.; and Wm. Howard Brown, of Zearing, Iowa.

Mr. Brown is survived by his life long companion, his ten children, twenty-four grandchildren, an invalid brother O.W. Brown living near Thayer, and a host of friends.

He was united with the Methodist church under the pastorate of Rev. Geo. Palmer and the text of the Scripture followed his conversion, Prov. 23:26, was used by request in the funeral services.

With the exception of a few years spent in California, Mr. Brown made his residence in and near Shannon City since young manhood. He was one of the oldest residents and on the first board of trustees of the church. All unite in ascribing deserved praise to a well spent life for community uplift. His christian testimony of conscious acceptance was given to the very end as he went to his reward.

Services were conducted by his pastor and held in the Shannon M.E. church on February 7, 1936, at 2 p.m. and interment was in the Shannon City cemetery.
