Cecil M. Oakes, 73, of Creston died Nov 3. 1991, at Crest Haven Care Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Stroud-Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home in Afton. The Rev. Eydie Stephens will officate the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Afton. There is open visitation after noon Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his name.

Mr. Oakes was born March 4, 1918, in Sand Creek Township, Union County, to leon and Ruth (Donner) Oakes. He was a longtime resident of Shannon City until moving to Creston in 1967. He moved to Crest Haven Care Centre 2 1/4 years ago. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include a brother, Russell (wife Juanita) Oakes of Shannon City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
