Funeral services for Robert L. Donner were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, at the Stroud Funeral Home here. Rev. James W. Morris, pastor of the Afton United Methodist Church, officiated. Music was provided by organist, Mrs. Vernon Long. Casket bearers were relatives: Arthur Donner, Albert Donner, Bob Donner III, Bill Fry, Kenneth Russell and Oliver Russell. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery at Afton.

Mr. Donner, who was 81, passed away Sunday at 2:55 a.m. at the Crest Haven Nursing Home in Creston. He had been a patient at the Greater Community Hospital for 10 days before being released and going back to the nursing home the day prior to his death. Robert Leroy Donner was born July 18, 1891 in Union County, Iowa. He was the son of Sterling C. and Henrietta Preston Donner. On June 18, 1912 he was married to Bessie Knight. They made their home on a farm south of Afton until moving into Afton twelve years ago.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Bessie of Afton; two sons Robert Leroy Donner of Chariton and Donald K. Donner of Augusta, Georgia; 17 grand-children; several great grand-children. He was preceded in death by a daughter and five sisters.
