VERN MARLER
Vern Marler, 86, of Danville, formerly of Creston, died Sept.1, 2008, at Danville Care Center.
Grave-side servises will be held 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. The Rev. Joseph Pins of Holy Spitit Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Vern Marler, son of Gertie Beatrice [Hathaway] and Joseph Anderson Marler, was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Tingley. He graduated from Tingley High School.
On Dec. 27, 1943, he married Helen Martha O'Grady at Maloy.
Vern lived in Union County most of his life. He lived in northern Iowa for a short time, then moved to Lamoni from 1954-1973. He moved to Danville in 2000.
Vern farmed the majority of his life, and also worked as a sand-mixer at Wellman Dynamics in Creston from 1973-1984.
Vern was a member of Cozy Campers Club.
Survivors include his children, Jeanne K. [husband Dean] Stewart of Burlington, Janice E. Marler, Robert J.[Wife Rita] Marler of Maryville, Tenn., Marilyn S.[husband John Cavanaugh of Chariton; sister-in-law Wilma Marler of Armstrong; seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandaughter and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2001; sisters, Eva in infancy, Beulah Perkins, Vira Wilson and Lorene Marler and brother William Marler.
