David Briley, 85, of Creston died Aug. 23, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wedensday, Aug. 27, at the First Methodist Church in Creston. The Rev. Jim Gubser and the Rev. Dwane Henrichs will offiiate. Burial will be in Murray Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home, junction of Highways 34 and 25, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are to be established in his name.
David Ross Briley, son of Mabel Jean [Pomeroy] and John Alva Briley, was born Aug. 15, 1923 in Union County near Thayer. He attended country schools in Sand Creek and Pleasant townships. After school he worked for various farmers as a farm laborer before working for R.E.A. cutting poles for the first electric lines in Union County. He later moved to Arispe, where he worked for Cecil Nichols Coal.
On Oct. 6, 1957, he married Georgia Roberta Western at the United Methodist Church in Creston.
David later worked for the Creton Coop, while still continuing to farm and later worked as custodian for Creston Medical Clinic, retiring in 1988.
Survivors include his wife Roberta Briley of Creston, daughters, Jane Briley of Creston; and Judy [husband Doug] Wedemyer of Casey; brother-in-law Hazen Dunfee; grandchidren, Bret and Matt Wedemyer and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding David in death were his parents; brothers, Benjamin and Philip Biley and sisters, Naomi Grimes, Genevieve Perry and Allyne Dunfee.
