CHARLES KNOTT
Charles Leonard "Tubby" Knott, 88, of Lenox, died Aug. 1, 2008 at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, at Ritchie Funeral Home, 124 S. Main St., Lenox. Burial with military rites by Parkinson American Legion Post No. 250 will be in Blue Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m., at the Funeral Home, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given in Charles' name. Charles Leonard "Tubby" Knott, son of Mable [Underwood] and Charlie Knott, was born April 6, 1920, on a farm in rural Sharpsburg.
Leonard attended country school and Sharpsburg Public School. After graduating from high school, he farmed wtih his father.
Leonard served in the US Air Force during World War II. He was stationed at several stateside camps, and New Guinea, Dutch India, Phillipines and Japan.
Leonard returned to work on the family farm in 1945. He also worked for Crestland Cooperative in Lenox for 14 years.
On May 16, 1959, he married Ona Gibbens in Des Moines.
Survivors include his wife Ona of Lenox; daughter Sundae [husband Eric] of Sharpsburg; grandchildren Benjamin and Meghan; Kris Nelson [husband Dean] Palmer of Rice, VA; Jason, Matthew and Stephanie Harbor; sister Ellen Wehrhan Of Lincoln, Neb., and several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, brother; sister-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
