Jean E. Hoyt, 86, of Creston, died July 30, 2008, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug 4, at the First Presbyterian Church in Creston. The Rev, Scott Vandenheuvel will officiate. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Powers Funeral Home, junction of Highways 34 and 25, with the family present at 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church. Online condolences may be left under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com.

Jean E. Hoyt, daughter of Mozelle Elizabeth [Strine] and Samuel Russell Ormiston, was born July 16, 1922 in Brooklyn. She graduated from Brooklyn High school and studied at State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

On Sept. 25, 1943, she married John L. Hoyt in Brooklyn. They moved to Creston in 1949.

Jean was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, their quilting club, and choir, Creston Community Choir, P.E.O. Chapter LG, Bancroft Book Club, garden club, other quilting groups, Historical Society and Crestmoor Golf Club.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan [husband Roger] McCay of Diagonal, Mary Georgeina [husband Bud Matthews] of Sandia Park, N.M., Sandee Jean [husband Don] Ulm of Glendale, Ariz,., son Dr. John Charles [wife Jennifer] Hoyt of Creston; grandchildren, Kevin McCay, Kelly Purdy, Jim Matthews, Scott and Mark Ulm, and Aaron and Ryan Hoyt and seven great-grandchldren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2003 and granddaughter Kerry Sharer.
