“Mrs. Clara Kinkade passed peacefully away Sunday morning, May 5th, 1917, at 6 o’clock. She had a stroke of apoplexy on Sunday morning at 9:30 o’clock, and was in an unconscious condition until the time of her death. The deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Widger of this place, and was born in Illinois, being about 56 years of age at the time of her death. She came with her parents to Cromwell between 45 and 50 years ago, where she has since made her home. She was united in marriage to Wm. Kinkade of Cromwell about 35 years ago. Six children were born to this union, two daughters and four sons, and are as follows: Mrs. Maude Ours, Elmer, Harvey, George and Mae, all of Cromwell, and Frank of Chicago. Beside her husband and children, she leaves eight grandchildren, a brother Will Widger, of Cromwell, and two sisters, Mrs. Susie Stalker of Cromwell, and Mrs. Alice Hoffman of Creston, Iowa, to mourn her loss. The deceased was an active member of the Congregational church, where her husband is a deacon. She was of a quiet disposition and was a faithful and loving wife and mother and will not only be missed by her family but by the community. The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon [May 6] at 2 o’clock at the home and interment was made in the Mapel Hill cemetery [aka Cromwell Cemetery]. Rev. T. E. Williams conducted the services. The floral offering was large and beautiful. The pallbearers were her four sons and soninlaw [sic], Will Ours, and her brother, Will Widger. Those present from abroad were Frank Kinkade, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. George Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Kiddoo, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Thomas, Roy Widger and family, Mrs. Mary Dean, Dr. Keith and James Brown, of Creston, and Mrs. F. J. Stevens, of Spaulding. The relatives have the sympathy of the community.” END
