“Adams County Free Press” (Corning, Iowa). June 1, 1928 (Friday). Page 3, Column 4 in the “Cromwell” column:
“Since the writing of these items [regarding death of Mrs. Henry Baker] we learn that W[aldo] P[ayson] Baker [son of Henry Baker] has received a message of the death of his brother, V[estall] A[lphonso] Baker, at Petoskey, Michigan. Mr. Baker passed away Monday morning [May 28]. The news of this death will be received with deepest regret by old time friends. The family was among [the] best known families of this community for years and was highly respected by all.” END
“Adams County Union-Republican” (Corning, Iowa). May 30, 1928 (Wednesday). Page 22, Column 1, in the “Cromwell” column:
“W[aldo] P[ayson] Baker received a message Monday morning telling of the death of his brother, V[estall] A[lphonso] Baker, of Petoskey, Mich. Mr. Baker had received a letter from his brother, V. A., Sunday telling that he and his wife were going to their summer cottage to prepare it so they could soon go there for the summer. Mr. Baker passed away the morning of the day, his step mother, Grandma Baker [S. Adelia (Ketchum) Baker], was buried [in the Cromwell Cemetery]. V. A. Baker and family lived at this place for many years and were active members of the M. E. church. Mr. Baker has many friends here who are grieved to learn of his death.” END
