“Rev. S. L. Unger conducted the funeral services of the late Lucius Hitchcock at the Congregational church Wednesday afternoon [June 29] which were largely attended by friends and neighbors of the deceased and family. A quartett [sic], composed of Misses Helen Unger, Josephine Sutton, and Will Smith and E. O. Polson with Miss Mae Kinkade [on the piano] rendered the music. The songs were “Abide with Me,” “Some Day the Silver Chord will be Broken” and “Asleep in Jesus.” The pall bearers were Rev. Sam Hitchcock, of Williston, N. Dak.; Frank Hitchcock, of Franklin, Pa., sons of the deceased, Wm. H. Widger of this vicinity, a son-in-law, Roy Widger of Lenox, a grand son, Will McPherren of Nelson, Nebr., and Alfred Henry of Shannon City, also relatives. The floral offerings were beautiful. At the close of the services the remains were taken to the Maple Hill cemetery [aka Cromwell Cemetery] for intermem [sic]. The relatives attending from other places were Rev. Sam Hitchcock of Williston, N.Dak., Frank Hitchcock of Franklin, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. Will McPherren of Nelson, Nebr., Mrs. May Campbell and daughter of Ord, Nebr., Roy Widger and family, of Lenox, Mrs. Dorothy Henry of Silver City, Ed Hayner, Henry Hayner, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hayner, Mr. and Mrs. Martin all of Creston. Among friends from Creston the following were noted: Mrs. M. E. Bacon, Mrs. L.L.Goole, Mrs. T.S.H. Dougherty, Mrs. H. Webb, Mrs. L. M. Randolph and Mrs. Ralph Carnes.” END
