“Word was received Sunday [July 3] of the death of William Henry Harrison at the home of his daughter, Mrs. [Charity] Chattie Topham, in [Friant,] California. It is expected the remains will reach Cromwell Friday [July 8], where the funeral and interment will be made. Thus another old settler of Cromwell has passed away. The deceased is the father of Mrs. Elmer [Evelyn] Kinkade, of Cromwell, and H[arry] C[arrell] Harrison, of Creston. We will give a more extended obituary later.” END

The remains were brought to Cromwell and the funeral was held in the Congregational church Saturday afternoon [July 9] at 3 o’clock. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Samuel Hitchcock, of Williston, N.D., a former Cromwell pastor, and who was called to attend the funeral of his father [Lucius Hitchcock], the week before. He was assisted by Rev. S. L. Unger, pastor of the church. The music was rendered by a quartet, composed of Mrs. Dorothy Henry, Miss Josephine Sutton, Will Smith and E. O. Polson, with Miss Mae Kinkade as pianist.
