“The funeral of the late Lucius Hitchcock was held Wednesday afternoon, June 29th , [1921] at 2:30 o’clock, in the Congregational church, the services being conducted by Rev. S. L. Unger. There was a large attendance, which shows the esteem in which the deceased and family were held. The music was rendered by a quartette, composed of Miss Helen Unger, Miss Josephine Sutton, Will Smith and E. O. Polson, with Miss Mae Kinkade, pianist. The songs sung were “Abide with Me,” “Some Day the Silver Chord Will Break” and “Asleep in Jesus.” The pall bearers were all relatives of the deceased and were Wm. Widger, Rev. Sam Hitchcock, of Williston, N. D.; Frank Hitchcock, Franklin, Penn.; Alfred Henry, Shannon City, Iowa; Roy Widger, Lenox, Iowa. The floral offerings were beautiful and numerous. Interment was made in Maple Hill cemetery [aka Cromwell Cemetery]. Among the relatives present from abroad were: Rev. Sam Hitchcock, Williston, N.D.; Frank Hitchcock, Franklin, Penn.; Mrs. Jennie McPherren, Nelson, Nebr; Mrs. May Campbell and little daughter Mildred, of Ord, Nebr.; Roy Widger and family, of Lenox, Ia.; Mrs. Dorothy Henry, of Iowa City; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Henry, of Shannon City; Henry Hayner, Ed. Hayner, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hayner, and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hayner, all of Creston; besides a large number of old friends from Creston and vicinity.” END
