LELAND JONES

Leland Jones, 84, of Creston died April 21, 2008, at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.
Memorial services with military honors by Theodore J. Martins Post No. 1797 will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral service, 809 W. Montgomery St. The Rev. Daniel Moore of St. Johns United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no public viewing. Memorials may be directed to Camp Sunnyside. Leland Jones, son of Nellie Olive [Knotts] and Leslie O.Jones, was born Oct. 16, 1923, in Adel. He was a 1942 graduate of Afton High School, moved to Creston and worked for the railroad from 1944 to 1984, when he retired as engineer. He served from 1948 to 1951 during the Korean Conflict.

He married Lois [Ward] Christensen in 1952 and they were later divorced.

He married Thelma Dix in 1976 and they were later divorced.

Leland was a member of VFW, American Legion and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Survivors include his sons, Douglas G.[Wife Janice] Jones of Creston and Steven L.Jones of Ypsilanti, Mich, sister Freda Long of Oklahoma; grandchldren, Cara Haddock, Kimberly Hewitt, Tammy Sutherland, Jamie Dukleth, Mariah Jo Kralik, and Ryan Dukleth; brother-n-law Walter [wife Jimmie Lou] Christensen Jr. of Clayton, Ala.; 16 great-grand children and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents; first wife in 2000; son Greg Leslie Jones; brother Kenny Jones and several half-brothers and sisters.
