Afton, Iowa Jan. 4, 1894

One of the sad events that ushered in the new year was the death of Eunice Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Clark, which occurred early Sunday morning. The little girl has been more or less afflicted for two years with catarrh of the head or some similar trouble, but had become so much better last fall that she attended school for six weeks, and confident hopes were entertained that she would eventually become well and strong. She was taken sick on Thursday, but developed no alarming symptoms until Saturday but from that time grew rapidly worse until death ended her sufferings. The funeral was held on Monday, at three o’clock from the M. E. church, pastor Rev. E B. Heaton, assisted by Father Nixon officiating.

The interment was made in the Afton cemetery. Eunice was a regular attendant at the Methodist Sunday school as long as her health permitted. Although barely past fourteen years of age she was earnest and ambitious, desiring an education and devoting herself to her books when able.

The family occupies a high place in the estimation of our people, and the sorrowing parents are assured that the hearts of fathers and mothers thought out the community with loved ones at home, are with them in their deep grief.
