GREENLAWN CEM
Afton, Enterprise
May 18, 1893

The funeral of Ernest Claussen was held on Friday the interment taking place in the Afton cemetery. Rev. T. M. Evans, of the Evangelical church conducting the burial services at the grave.

Mr. Claussen was born in Coppelu, Schleswig, Germany, July 1, 1824, died at his home in Union county Iowa May 10, 1893. He was therefore 68 years, 10 months and 9 days old. He came to Iowa about twenty-five years afo, and has resided in Pleasant township most of the time since. Thought in feeble health, his last illness was brief and his death sudden and unexpected.

Ernest Claussen was a true type of the German-American citizens who has been such an important factor in developing the resources of this country—guiet, industrious and law abiding. His character was above reproach and the sorrowing relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community.
(small item in May 11th edition mentions a brother F. A. Claussen of Beatrice, Neb.)
