Afton Enterprise
Afton, Iowa July 20, 1893

The death of John C. Wick occurred Sunday about 2 o’clock P.M. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the Evangelical church, the pastor Rev. T. M. Evans officiating. The remains were buried in the Abel cemetery near his old home. Mr. Wick was about seventy-eight years of age. He was born in Germany and belonged to that class of German-American citizens who have aided so materially in developing the resources of this country. Deceased had been a resident of Union county about thirty-eight years, his farm in Sand Creek township being among the early landmarks of this region. He devoted much of his time to fruit raising. Several years ago he moved to Afton with the intention of passing his remaining years quietly. He leaves a large family of children most of whom are of age. Several of his sons now residing in sand Creek township, are prominent in its affairs. The entire community sympathizes with the bereaved relatives in their loss.
