Afton Enterprise
Afton, Iowa July 20, 1893

DIED-At Memphis, Mo., July 12, 1893, Mrs. Nancy Alford Leech, aged 78 years, 3 months and 9 days

Nancy Alford McKnight was born in Botetourt county, Virginia, April 3, 1815. She was married to James Leech in the same county, Step., 15, 1836. They removed to Rockbridge county in the same state and remained until the fall of 1855.

To this couple nine children were born, all of whom, except one-a daughter who died in childhood-moved with the parents to Lucas county, Iowa, on leaving Virginia in 1855. Mr. and Mrs. Leech remained in Lucas county until February, 1892, when they came to Union county and made their home with William and Thomas Leech.

In June of this year they went to visit their old home and friends in Lucas county, and from there to visit the only surviving brother of Mrs. Leech and other friends in Scotland county, Missouri, at which place her death occurred on the date mentioned above.

Deceased had been a member of the Presbyterian church for about sixty five years and with her husband, who has been a ruling elder for about twenty years, has been a quiet, faithful servant of God, living and dying with Christian faith.

Besides a large relationship and circle of friends, Mrs. Leech leaves four sons and a grief stricken husband to toil with the affairs and duties of life while she is in the realms of glory with her God and Saviour, and the loved ones who, trusting in the same Saviour, had gone before and were ready to great her.

The remains were brought to Afton and the funeral took place from the residence of A. M. Vance on Friday at 2 o’clock P.M. It was largely attended by sympathizing friends. Deceased’s pastor Rev. F. L. Goff had charge of the services, preaching from the following text:

To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.—Rev, 2:7.

The remains were then conveyed to their last resting place in the Afton cemetery and then interred to await the final resurrection.
