Virgil Blanchard, Creston

Virgil Allen Blanchard, 82, 501 New York Ave., died Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 1990, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Keating-Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home, Creston. The Rev. Danny Eddington, Pastor of the Crest Baptist Church, will officate the services. Burial will be in the Murry Cemetery. Open visition after 3 p.m. today. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mr. Blanchard was born Aug 16,1907, in Pierre, S. D., to Robert Leo and Daisy (Kinkennon) Blanchard. He lived most of his life in the Creston area. He was employed by the railroad, worked also for Western Union and was a self - employed tree trimmer. He retired in 1969. He was a member of the Throdore Martin VFW Post 1797. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army from October 1942 to September 1945.

Survivors include three sons, John, Gary and Leslie " Skip " Blanchard, all of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Mary Lou Webster of Portland, Ore., and Joann England of Creston; several grandchildren and great - grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Hardin of St. Cloud, Minn., Marie " Bessie " (Mrs. Preston) Perry of Des Moines, Mrs. Irene Overholtzer of Creston and Mrs. Mildred Cochran of California; and two brothers, Alfred Blanchard and Bert (wife Naomi) Blanchard of Creston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and five sisters.
