1886-1971Lewis E. Dostal Dies at Age 84; Thursday Rites
Lewis E. Dostal, 84, rural Toledo, died at Community Hospital East, Marshalltown, at 11:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, where he had been a patient the past 10 days. He had been in failing health the last three months and was hospitalized intermittently.
The Rosary, led by Rev. G. F. Hemesath, was recited at the Mason-Hand Funeral home Wednesday night at 7:30 o’clock. Mrs. Sharon Stringer, Miss Katherine Dostal and Mrs. William Petra were in charge of Mass cards.
Services are set for 9:30 Thursday morning at St. Patrick’s Catholic church, Tama, with Rev. G. F. Hemesath, celebrant of the requiem Mass. Organ music by Mrs. John Cibula. Caring for floral tributes are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mysak and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Kupka.
Active pallbearers are Albert Krupp, Gary Stringer, Edward Dostal, Randy Dostal, Erwin Dostal and Virgil Kos. Honorary pallbearers are Alan Dostal, serving in the Air Force in Wiesbaden, Germany, and Mrak Dostal, with the U.S. Navy, based in San Diego, California. Burial in St. Vaclav cemetery, rural Clutier.
Born March 18, 1886, in Otter Creek township, Lewis E Dostal was the son of Joseph and Anna Pokorney Dostal. He was educated in the area of his birth and had always farmed. In 1902, with his parents, he moved to Howard township, where he began farming for himself.
On October 24, 1917, he was married to Miss Mary Sotyn of Toledo, in Clutier. The couple resided on a farm in Howard township, until retiring to their present home, one-half mile north of Toledo on Highway 63, on June 1, 1949.
Mr. Dostal was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic church, Tama.
Survivors include his wife, four children, Mrs. Victor (Mildred) Vajgrt, Garwin, Fred L. of Traer, Ludwig J. of Toledo, Arthur J. of Elberon; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also five brothers and one sister, Joseph, Ernest and John Dostal and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Nekola all of Toledo, Peter and Frank Dostal, Tama, and several nephews and nieces.
